Friends of Camas Arts had its inaugural Open-Mic with feature poet Tobias Peterson. His vivid imagery lifted us up and inspired the young and the old to share their original pieces or published pieces that inspired them. Open-mic is open to the public and contributors are encouraged to share two pieces of poetry or a two-and-a-half minute musical piece. This is an uncensored event and all are welcome. Please come and join us, you can listen or contribute. It is a $5 door fee to raise money for art education. Make plans to be there the first Saturday of each month, Coventry Garden a flower shop and tea bar. Bring your own mug for free tea.

Katie Seidl, IAA Senior Language Arts Teacher at Camas High School, applied for a grant from Friends of Camas Arts. She proposed that the IAA seniors, along with the other seniors in her class, go to Mercy Corps Headquarters in Portland, OR. These lucky senior students will be participating in a workshop to learn how art can be used as a form of activism. The students will then create art to promote or impact a cause of their choosing. This is intended to help students gain cultural awareness and understand the influence their art has on their community. The grant funds will be used to fund all or most of the field trip to the Mercy Corps Headquarters in November.
Thank you to all the Camas High School IAA students who donated their encaustic tile paintings to help raise funds for their program. The Camas Downtown Association and Journeys Church sponsored our space and we had a nice evening with the community. If you were unable to attend the September Camas 1st Friday event, there are still some tiles available. If you are interested in purchasing, please contact [email protected]. In the spirit of Plein Air Art, Friends of Camas Arts hosted a Plein Air Painting event at the beginning of August. Several aspiring Camas High School student artists joined us for an afternoon of painting. These are some of the pieces that are for sale from the students' donations. If interested contact Friends of Camas Arts to arrange a purchase. Pawchella - July 9 2017 - was a great success. We had lots of fun music, good weather, tasty food, and met both four-footed and two-legged friends. Special thanks to Cedar's Academy of Makeup Artistry, which sponsored a second booth for Friends of Camas Arts at the event and provided face painting. Thank you to Camas Meadows for inviting us to be apart of Concerts for a Cause. We had so much fun doing paw prints (both the four-footed and two-legged kind). Check out our event photos on the fundraising page. Thanks for all the support. Hope to see you at our next event, Camas' September 1st Friday - Plein Air Art Event.
FOCA was chosen to be one of four charity partners for the 2017 Concert for a Cause. Camas Meadows will be hosting an outdoor concert with various music artists to help raise funds for local organizations. The event, Pawchella, will take place on Sunday, July 7th.
